Age: 37

Hometown: Fourth generation of family here

Years in Parachute: 37

Years on board: 4 years, elected as mayor in April 2006

Term ends: 2010

Why did you decide to run for the board? There was a lack of people that were involved at the time. I’m very passionate about this town; I grew up here, so did my grandparents. I wanted to preserve history, bridge the gap between old-timers and new-timers. So far I think we’ve been doing pretty well.

Age: 57

Hometown: Kansas City, Mo.

Years in Parachute: 27+

Years on board: 24+ (12 years as mayor and around 10 years as mayor pro tem)

Why did you decide to run for trustee? “To give back to the community, to participate and to be a part.”

Age: 65

Hometown: born in Milwaukee, Wisc., grew up in Madison

Years in Parachute: 26 years

Years on council: 6

Term ends: 2008

Why did you decide to run for council? I just want to make my town as good as it can be. I felt I had lots of ideas, I’m willing to spend the time. … I’ve been a community organizer all of my professional life so I felt I had the skills to do it. I believe we as a council have to be more communicative with our residents, that we need to talk one on one with them, invite them to special meetings, communicate what we’re going to do, get their input. I don’t think we’ve done a good job at that. I think the school board, fire district, should meet more regularly, and it would make people more interested in serving.

Age: 65

Hometown: Parachute (Born and raised in Andalusia, Ala.)

Why did you decide to run for board? The trustee who was leaving impressed on her the importance of doing so. She realizes now it’s nice to be involved and to participate, and to be a good citizen. “Citizenship has responsibilities.”

Age: 69

Hometown: Parachute, born and raised

Years in Parachute: 59 (Spent 10 years in Grand Junction)

Years on board: 6 or 7

Why did you decide to run for board? I’d never thought about it. I ran into Mayor John Loschke at the post office, and he suggested that I run.

Age: 31

Hometown: Monte Vista, Colo.

Years in Parachute: 8

Years on board: 4 years

Term ends: Next election

Why did you decide to run for board? I’m a social studies teacher, and small-town government is an interest to me. Before I got the teaching job, I worked as a secretary at Town Hall. When I went back into the classroom I really missed it, so when there was an opening on the board I decided to run. I just love small-town government and was fascinated by it.
