Meet Your Neigbors

Compiled by Stina Sieg
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado

Age: 74

Lives in: Glenwood Springs and Phoenix (originally from Houston)

Occupation: Retired

What are you known for? “My love of sports (she’s been a bowler, tennis player and golfer), and I love to sing. I started doing gigs the last few years in Phoenix.”

What’s been your greatest adventure so far? “I went to Africa. My daughter and her husband are missionaries. I went over there, went on safaris, rode elephants. To me, that’s an adventure. One of the most exciting things in my life was probably getting the opportunity to go to the White House and go to a morning tea with President Bush (the elder) and Barbara Bush for the National Day of Prayer (one of her daughters, Jo Anne Licht, was organizing the prayer day).

Thinking about this year’s election makes you … “Nervous and very concerned.”

(Chris’ daughter)

Age: 55 (“And put a smile by it,” she said)

Lives in: Glenwood Springs (originally from Houston)

Occupation: All-purpose clerk at City Market in Glenwood

What are you known for? “Lately, I’m known for my cat, Miss Marble, who is 17 years old. I’ve also been known as the ‘little hummer’ at City Market. I hum while I work. When people ask me why I’m so happy, I tell them ‘I have a lot to be thankful for.'”

What’s been your greatest adventure so far? “Lucky enough to travel. As a child, I lived in Venezuela, and on my way back to the United States, we spent three months going through Central America and Mexico. Oh, and Africa, too (during a later trip). It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I’d love to go back. Before I left, a lady told me, ‘Open your heart, and you’ll feel the magic.’ And I did.”

Thinking about this year’s election makes you … “Scared. I’m pretty brazen, but this year’s election scares the daylights out of me.”

Age: 16

Lives in: Blue Lake (and raised there, too)

Occupation: Junior at Basalt High School

What are you known for? “Guitar. I like to practice guitar from four to six hours-ish (a day). I’ve only been playing five months, but I got to play in front of about 1,500 people in Fort Collins (at a leadership conference). It was like a life-changing moment.”

What’s been your greatest adventure so far? “Linkin Park concert. That was pretty fun.”

Thinking about this year’s election makes you … “Crazy.”

Age: 34

Lives in: New Castle (born in Glenwood)

Occupation: Truck driver

What are you known for? “Being crazy.”

What’s been your greatest adventure so far? “Having all three of my kids at a pretty young age.”

Thinking about this year’s election makes you … “Really talk about a lot of stuff we’d like to change.”
