What was the last great surprise you experienced? “Well, I think I’m actually surprised at how well my business is going. … In this economy, it’s great to see people going green, recycling. And that’s the kind of business I’m in.”

What was the last great movie you saw? “You know what? I haven’t. Isn’t that funny? I don’t have time to watch movies. I’m too busy here.”



What are you really looking forward to right now? “I guess I would say the economy (getting better).”

Lives in: Hotchkiss (born and raised in Carbondale)

Occupation: “Mostly raising my daughter, and then a small portion is pricing at Miser’s Mercantile.” (Her mother owns the Carbondale store)

What was the last great surprise you experienced? “Definitely the birth of my daughter. I didn’t know we were having a girl.”

What was the last great movie you saw? “I really liked ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ with Al Gore.”

What are you really looking forward to right now? “Probably more traveling ” but as a family now. Not just being me and my husband now, but having a child to meet foreign cultures with.”

Lives in: Carbondale (since always)

Occupation: House framer

What was the last great surprise you experienced? “I don’t know. I don’t really have a lot of surprises.”

What was the last great movie you saw? “‘Babylon A.D.'”

What are you really looking forward to right now? “Moving to Canada, getting out of this country.” (He’ll be leaving in June for Blackcomb, B.C.)

Age: 65

Lives in: Redstone (originally from Victoria, Australia)

Occupation: Consultant and writer

What was the last great surprise you experienced? “I had a manuscript chosen to be published recently of stories I’d written (titled ‘Rivers of My Memory,’ it speaks of his fly-fishing adventures around the world over the last few decades). Also, I got an elk tag, and that surprised me greatly.”

What was the last great movie you saw? “The last good movie I saw was a George Clooney movie, ‘Burn After Reading.’ And I’m a Paul Newman fan from way back, so I’m kind of in mourning at present.”

What are you really looking forward to right now? “Well, the obvious ones, like the economy and making some sense of out the government again. And getting the election over and done with. It’s getting so it’s kind of painful. Seeing my daughters before Christmas would be nice. They both live in New York.”
