Meet Your Neighbors
(pictured with her daughter, Stella)
Lives in: Carbondale (originally from Minneapolis, Minn.)
Occupation: “I used to be a teacher, and now I’m a stay-at-home mom.”
What’s your favorite thing about living around here? “I like the small town community feel. And I like the outdoors ” access, playing.”
What would you like to see change? “Hmm … Let me think about that. I don’t know how I want it to change. I like that Carbondale is funky and eclectic. And I like that there’s nice restaurants, but I like that there’s cheap restaurants. I don’t want this town to become a boutique town. I like the diversity of Carbondale.” (But, she added, she also likes changes such as the new trailheads and bike path up the Crystal River Valley she’s heard proposed.)
When was the last time you danced? “Probably at Steve’s Guitars (during Mountain Fair, to Lipbone Redding).”
Lives in: Carbondale (and he likes to say Colorado is where he’s from)
Occupation: Design engineer of solar power systems
What’s your favorite thing about living around here? “The colors. And I like the frontier mentality that pervades the people and culture here. The mountain man lifestyle.”
What would you like to see change? “It would be great to see people rallying for the Roan Plateau and stuff like that, which I think is why we all live here, for the natural beauty. It would be cool to see people rallying to renew those resources ” our rivers, our valleys ” instead of depleting them, and stopping industry from taking those resources in a nonrenewable sort of way.”
When was the last time you danced? “Three weeks ago in Washington state, Guemes Island, sitting around a campfire with guitars. It was a solar energy class I was taking out there.”
Lives in: Carbondale (originally from Portland, Maine)
Occupation: Reporter at Aspen Public Radio
What’s your favorite thing about living around here? “The proximity to nature and the community.”
What would you like to see change? “The construction on Main Street. I’d like to see the construction finished.”
When was the last time you danced? “Monday night, Latin dance in Glenwood at the Community Center. I loved it. It felt exciting. It felt fun. It felt like a little dance party, like being in a little dance party.”
Lives in: Carbondale (originally from Basil, Switzerland)
Occupation: Owner of Swiss Gourmet Fine Foods in Carbondale
What’s your favorite thing about living around here? “Just being in the mountains. Growing up in Switzerland, of course, that’s important.”
What would you like to see change? “I’d like Carbondale to grow, more housing for people, more people moving to Carbondale.”
When was the last time you danced? “Oh boy. Probably my wedding (10 years ago).”
