Melissa Newsom passed away Jan. 17, 2006, in Silt. He was 33.She was born Dec. 16, 1972, at Canoga Park, Calif., where she spent much of her childhood.Melissa and her family later moved to Bainbridge, Wash., where she attended and graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1990. After graduating, Melissa and her family moved to Grand Junction, where her parents now reside.In 1991, Melissa chose to move to Carbondale, where she worked for Rocky Mountain Institute for three years. She later moved to Silt, where she worked as an executive housekeeper, and then for the City of Glenwood Springs as a janitorial supervisor.Melissa made friends everywhere she went and loved being in the outdoors, especially stream fishing, mountain biking and skiing. Her true love was for her family and her pets, always bringing home stray animals.She had a big heart, and will be missed greatly by her family and friends.There will be a visitation from 7-9 p.m. Friday, and from 3-5 p.m. Saturday at the Rifle Funeral Home Chapel.The family has requested that there be no formal services.
