Dale Shrull Post IndependentCubs visit the PI: Cub Scout Pack 225, Den 14, stopped by the Glenwood Springs Post Independent office for a tour of how the newspaper operation works. While everyone else was out enjoying the final days of summer last weekend, members of the Rifle Snowmobiling Club were busy getting ready for the upcoming snow season, doing a trail cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 19. There were 11 club members who helped, going in different directions to pick up trash along the road from West Elk parking lot to Triangle Park, down Little Box and around Coulter Loop. They also went to Hiner Springs and from there over to the Meeker trailhead and to Cow Lake. The group left to go on the cleanup at 9:30 a.m. and were back at the groomer shed (near the parking lot) at 2 p.m. for a cookout to end the day. Thanks for all your hard work!

Air Force Airman 1st Class Russell D. Gredig graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.He is the son of John Gredig of County Road 245, New Castle.Gredig is a 2006 graduate of Bridges High School, Glenwood Springs.

Jerrod & Tiffany Merriam of Rifle are pleased to announce the birth of their baby girl Brighit Margaret Merriam.Born on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Grand Junction. She was welcomed into this world at 2:04 p.m., weighing 6 pounds, 15.8 ounces, and measuring 20 inches in length.Proud grandparents are Gary and Patti Merriam of Meeker and Dan and Mary Lineberry of Rifle.
