The National Association of Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Councils is very pleased to announce that Colorado Big Country RC&D Council of Glenwood Springs has been awarded membership in the National Circle of Diamonds Program. As a member of the Circle of Diamonds, Colorado Big Country RC&D Council has demonstrated its positive impact on the quality of life within its local area. These impacts are in Land Management, Land Conservation, Water Management, and Community Development. This local area includes the 10 counties of northwest Colorado; Moffat, Routt, Jackson, Grand, Rio Blanco, Mesa, Garfield, Eagle, Summit, and Pitkin, and a small portion of Gunnison. Additionally, each Circle of Diamonds member is publicly accountable and realizes that its accountability relates directly to its organizational structure, the processes it uses, and the outcomes it attains.In earning Circle of Diamonds membership, Colorado Big Country RC&D Council has shown and promises to continue to show its ability to maintain the specific benchmarks set forth in the program guidelines. This mark of excellence shows the honesty, integrity, and strong commitment of Colorado Big Country RC&D Council to the RC&D mission.
Glenwood Springs Post Independent editor Dale Shrull recently was honored with two awards from the National Newspaper Association for feature writing.Shrull won first place in the Feature Series category for a multi-part series featuring an inmate at the Rifle Correctional Center, who was a firefighter and a member of the State Wildland Inmate Fire Team.One of the stories in the series also earned Shrull a second place in the Feature Story category. The contest is open to newspapers around the United States. The Post Independent competes in the daily newspapers with circulation of under 16,000 division.
Norma Hernandez, left, and Carly Bare, from Rifle High School, were awarded $500 scholarships from College In Colorado at the Rifle vs. Glenwood Springs football game Friday, Oct. 16. College In Colorado offers free college planning through its website, http://www.CollegeInColorado.org.
