The prestigious rank of Black Belt now is owned by eight members of the PRO TKD Martial Art and Healing Art Center in Carbondale. With ages ranging from 10-63, these proud members showed the fruits of hard work, discipline and perseverance. The annual 48-hour 1st Dan Black Belt test took place the weekend of Aug. 6-8. The testing panel was made up of local and visiting black belts, masters and grand masters. Preparation for the test begins in February with specific daily goals, and finishes with a 48-hour test. Cho Dans, colored belt rank before black belt, work on their physical and cardio vascular conditioning; they keep regular journals on their progress and on their daily meditations. They search deep into their own emotions and purpose for their life, which is facilitated with multiple times of meditation totaling 18 hours. They polish their Taekwondo and Eskrima curriculums and practice their Ki Energy with the Kimoodo Healing Art. Following a similar protocol, PRO TKD Martial Arts Center hosted a Sam Dan testing (3rd Dan) on the weekend of July 9-10. David Malehorn of Glenwood Springs successfully fulfilled all his requirements and was promoted to the 3rd Dan, Sam Dan level of black belt. PRO TKD Martial Arts Center is proud to welcome these members of our community to the black belt family and congratulate them for not giving up. They overcame their fears to stay the journey and accomplish this difficult and unique goal. Many start the journey but few complete to black belt and especially on to 3rd Dan black belt.
