Hap and Cindy Bruce of Basalt are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter Whitney Wood Bruce to Mark Floersch of Chicago. They were married June 12, 2010, in La Romana, Dominican Republic. Eighty-two family and friends arrived from all over the country to enjoy the Caribbean waters and celebrate with Whitney and Mark. Whitney was attended by her sister, Jenna Bruce, and bridesmaids Laura Pietrzak and Vanessa Carter from Aspen, and Kelly Olsick from Washington, D.C. Mark’s brother Stephen Floersch was his best man, with groomsmen Ted Thilman and Patrick Baker from Chicago and Andy Davis from Tennessee. Mark grew up in Winnetka and graduated from Miami of Ohio. Whitney was born and grew up in the Roaring Fork Valley, her parents being longtime locals. Whitney graduated from Elon University in North Carolina. Mark was working at The Gant and Whitney at Nuages when they met in 2004. After their honeymoon in St. John they returned to their residence in Chicago. Mark works for CB Richard Ellis as a commercial real estate broker and Whitney is an accountant executive with Williams-Labadie.
Parents Lemuel and Gretchen Harr of Rifle are happy to announce the birth of their son, Wylder Lemuel Harr, who was born on Aug. 9 at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. He was born on his great-grandmother’s birthday, Mildred Oakley of Decatur, Ariz., weighing in at 8 pounds, 13 ounces, and measuring 20.5 inches.Wylder joins the family with three brothers, Bodin, 5, Scout, 4, and Xain, 18 months.Grandparents are Frank and Pat Oakley of Parachute, and Merlin and Linda Harr of Raleigh, Miss.
Olivia Groth of Glenwood Springs was named to the dean’s list for the University of Nebraska in Omaha for the 2010 Spring Semester. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or better and be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours.
Galen and Sonya Smith of Rifle are pleased to announce the engagement of their son, Josh Smith, to Jessie Aragon, daughter of Jim and Kelly Aragon of Salida.Josh is a 2006 graduate of American School and is currently employed at MicroPlastics in Glenwood Springs.Jessie recently graduated from Salida High School and will be attending Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah.A May 2011 wedding is planned.
