Memories & Milestones
Rifle firefighter Thad Vroman was one of 1,850 people who got up early Sunday morning to climb a whole bunch of stairs. The 2011 Fight for Air Climb was held at the Republic Plaza in downtown Denver on Feb. 27. For five and a half hours a new participant started up the 56 flights of steps every 8 seconds. At 714 feet tall, the Republic Plaza is the tallest building in Colorado. Vroman competed in the Elite Division with a few colleagues from the Denver Fire Department. He made it to the top in 9 minutes and 53 seconds. The event raised more than $330,000 for the American Lung Association.
