Congratulations to Susana Ramirez (bride) and Jaime Alonso (groom) who are getting married today, Aug. 5, 2011, at St. Stephen’s Church In Glenwood Springs with Father Bill officiating. The bride is the daughter of Juan Jose Ramirez of Tepic, Mexico, and Martha Rodriguez of Guadalajara, Mexico. The groom is the son of Lynn Thomas of California. The bride will be given in marriage by her father, Juan Jose. Church music will be provided by a local mariachi band and a recording of the Striiiings group as the bride walks down the aisle. The reception will be hosted by the bride and groom at the Third Street Center in Carbondale. The couple will take their honeymoon trip to Dublin, Ireland, and plan to return to their beautiful new home in Basalt.
On July 19, the Glenwood Springs Kiwanis Club celebrated family night at Veltus Park with a steak cookout. Sixty people attended, including spouses and Kiwanis Club members from Craig and Parachute. In addition, the Kiwanis Rocky Mountain District Governor Bert West and his wife, Sandy, joined the club from Colorado Springs. Kiwanis supports youth and our community. In addition to Terrific Kids, Builders Club, and Key Club for K-12 kids, the club supports such community projects as the Pediatric Safety Fair (with Valley View Hospital), helmets for bike rodeos, Habitat for Humanity, MS Walk pancake breakfast, Stars of Tomorrow, YouthZone and Wind Walkers. The club has also built Veltus Park and the Community Center Tot Lot. In the 1950s, cooperating with the Forest Service, the club cleared the trail to and built the stairs, handrails and the original boardwalk for and around Hanging Lake.
Congratulations and good luck to Leah Scholl, 13, and her pony, Indian Dancer RF. Leah and her pony have qualified for the United States Zone 8 Nationals Pony Jumping Team. Leah and her pony will travel to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington next week to compete against 36 pony/rider teams from across the United States. Leah is the daughter of Rob and Cindy Scholl of Glenwood Springs and will be an eighth-grader at St. Stephen’s this fall. Leah rides and trains with Debbie Fischer of Full Circle Farm, Carbondale, and Karen Banister of White Harvest Farm, Brighton.
Mr. and Mrs. David Kmezich of Larkspur, announce the engagement and wedding of their daughter, Angela Marie Kmezich, to Andrew Christian Dwyer Cote, son of Bo and Cheryl Cote of Aspen.The future bride graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. She is employed as a Public Relations Director at Traction Communications in Denver.The future groom received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is employed as Dental Assistant at Dr. Aldo Leopardi, DDS, and plans to attend Dental School in the fall of 2011.Andrew and Angela met their freshman year of school at the University of Colorado at Boulder in Nutrition Class and have been dating now for six years.Andrew proposed to Angela on her birthday last September. The royal wedding will take place Oct. 1, 2011, in Snowmass. The couple will live in Denver.
