Leanne Richel was recently selected as the new Mrs. Garfield County and will represent her community in the the 36th annual state competition to be held Feb. 25, 2012, at the Temple Buell Theater in Denver.The winner of the state competition will receive a prize package valued at more than $15,000 and will advance to compete with 49 other state delegates at the national Mrs. America Pageant and potentially the internationally televised Mrs. World Pageant.

Saturday was a great day for the 2011 Aspen Yacht Club “Club Regatta” on Ruedi Reservoir. There were 23 boats racing in three classes – PHRF Fleet, Cruising Fleet and Sunfish Fleet – and three races were held for each Fleet. Margot Pendleton, of Basalt, won the PHRF class and the Oscar Haberman Trophy; Terry Bannon, of Carbondale, in full “pirate gear,” won the Cruising Class; and Courtney Sheeley, of Aspen, took the Sunfish honors.

Students representing Aspen, Basalt and New Castle Soo Bahk Do studios put on an excellent demonstration of their art recently for guest testing board members Kris Poole from Texas, James Donnelly from Virginia and Fred Messersmith from California. The Sa Bom Nims were here for the annual Technical Advisory Tour that is held at Mount Sopris Ranch. The students demonstrated their techniques for their next belt level in forms, sparring, sparring combinations and board breaking. The studios they represent are part of the Rocky Mountain Martial Arts.



Dustin Ragle of New Castle and Molly McGann of Englewood were married on Aug. 13 at the Annunciation Catholic Church in East Denver. John and Lisa Ragle are parents of the groom and Jim and Colleen McGann are the bride’s parents. The couple will reside in Parker.
