The Glenwood Springs Rotary Club distributed more than $2,000 worth of prizes to individuals as winners of the first Rotary Restaurant Rewards program.Rotarians rounded up more than $2,000 worth of gift certificates from Glenwood Springs restaurants. These gift certificates were bundled into nine prizes valued from $100 to $500. Winners donated to Rotary programs and projects. In return they were given the opportunity to win one of the prizes.Dr. Jim O’Donnell from Glenwood Medical Associates won the grand prize, which consisted of $500 worth of restaurant gift certificates. Since that’s a lot of dining out, Steve Reynolds, Rotarian and owner of The Gym, donated a three-month Gym membership to help work off those calories. When awarded his rewards at the weekly Rotary meeting, O’Donnell said, “I’ve always been a big supporter of what Rotary does for our community.””I thank the Mt. Sopris Rotary Club of Carbondale for the idea, I stole it from them,” admitted PJ Jaycox of the Glenwood Springs Rotary. “It seemed like a great way to help do a stimulus plan for local restaurants, raise some money to be used in our humanitarian and exchange projects, scholarships and other worthy programs, and give some great prizes to people around town.”The Glenwood Springs Rotary Club meets Fridays from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Rivers restaurant and invites interested individuals to come by and learn more about the world’s largest service club.
