The Valley View Hospital family gathered on Friday, April 20, to honor their colleagues at the Spirit of Caring Celebration 2012. This annual event recognizes that everyone at Valley View is a caregiver and has a unique opportunity to positively impact the way health care is delivered within the Planetree culture of patient-centered care. The Spirit of Caring event provides an opportunity to recognize colleagues who go above and beyond their jobs, every day. Nominations come from staff, physicians, administration, volunteers and patients. There are five categories of nominees: Individual Caregiver, Physician Champion, Team, Volunteer and Heeling Partner Dog. All nomination forms are read by the Planetree Steering Team, and their votes determine the winners. At the event, each nominee is recognized, and then the awards are given. Traditionally, last year’s winner presents to this year’s recipient. “This makes for a festive evening of surprises and sharing as we celebrate what brings us together in the first place, providing exemplary care for our patients,” said Wendy Tennis, Planetree Coordinator at Valley View.2012 winners are: Joyce Ball, Individual Caregiver; Nicole McDermott, M.D., Physician Champion; Pediatric Partners, Team; Joel Bone, Volunteer; and Teal (Laura Van Dyne) of Heeling Partners.
