The energetic members of the New Castle Garden Club recently undertook a goal of raising $350 to donate to the River Center’s Emergency Outreach. After receiving a donation of plants and herbs from Dwyer’s Greenhouse and Glenwood Gardens, the group set up their booth at the downtown New Castle Farmers Market, held every Thursday. It wasn’t long before their goal was reached and a check was presented. Only five years old, the garden club has logged many accomplishments such as this one. During the summer, they donate fresh produce weekly to LIFT-UP from their nearby group garden. Visitors and residents alike also enjoy the Smart Scape garden created by the club in downtown New Castle, just east of Garcia’s Market. The garden contains many drought tolerant plants that illustrate a beautiful landscape requiring very little irrigation.
