Memories & Milestones
Karol Sacca, Garfield County Libraries’ Parachute branch manager, received the Lucy Schweers Award for Excellence in Paralibrarianship at the 2012 Colorado Association of Libraries (CAL) Conference. This award is given to a librarian who displays outstanding leadership and service, as well as excellence in the library, information or media field within the state of Colorado. Nominees must directly or indirectly serve patrons and communities in a way that goes beyond basic requirements of his or her job. Karol was selected among a number of nominees from throughout Colorado. Congratulations, Karol.
Two Glenwood Springs Middle School eighth-grade students, Linda Ramirez and Dominica Avila, got involved with the Obama Campaign this election. They canvassed, campaigned and called Colorado registered voters and volunteered at least 20 hours each to President Obama’s campaign. They dedicated their time on Saturdays and Sundays and at least three hours after school the last three days leading up to the election to help campaign for the president. They explained to fellow voters that the reason they were supporting the president was due to women’s rights, and because he simply was “the best.”
