Merger with Mexico a Utopian vision

Dear Editor,

FYI to Eloise Ilgen, and her statement of, “If this continues, we have the right to have dual citizenship with them.” If you go into Mexico, and give birth, that baby has dual citizenship. When Ms. Ilgen talks about Mexicans and Americans moving freely between each country, voting, holding elective offices, owning each other’s natural resources and sharing each other’s national wealth and knowledge, she is living in a perfect world with perfect people, a Utopia.

Much as I like to go to Mexico, Mexico is corrupt. The Director of the Consular offices in Mexico and America is under investigation for selling illicit visas to Middle Easterners with terrorist ties. The PEMEX Company is corrupt. President Bush cancelled the April 2003 trade of “Oil for Amnesty”; we almost had an undeclared amnesty of millions in this country.

To answer this next thought, “We could also make sure each of us have employment that is honorable and leaves time to dream; each person should be guaranteed a comfortable base income.” That would be nice. Mexico has money and income, but unfortunately for her citizens, it is corrupt and the high-ranking officials take it.

How on Earth do we think we can live in la-la land with a country whose main interest is free money from the United States? They have one goal, to keep the money flowing in, as we are their third highest income source. We can’t save the world. We will lose ourselves trying to do so.

Very sincerely,

Marty Lich
