Michael J. Garrish, born Jan. 6, 1912, passed on at the Rifle veteran’s home on Sept. 17, 2004.He was born to Nicholas Garrish and Agnes Baltizar in Aspen, where he also was raised.Mike had many accomplishments in his life. He was in a World War II Army division as a master sergeant for six years, from 1941-1947. After that he came back to Aspen where he worked for Pitkin County in the road and bridge department. He later went on to become the mayor of Aspen for two full terms starting in 1959. He also sat on the city council.As a young man he loved to hunt and fish. Later in life, while still in Aspen, he grew gorgeous flower and vegetable gardens.He leaves behind a sister, Jessie Dundston of Glenwood Springs, several nephews and nieces and many dear friends.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aspen, 533 E. Main St. The interment will follow at Red Butte Cemetery where Mike will be buried with his father.
