RIFLE – St. Mary Catholic Church concludes its Mid-Winter Arts Festival with a performance by Mesa State musicians.

Pianist Andrea Arese-Elias, cellist J. Cameron Law and violinist Carlos Elias comprise the Mesa State Faculty Piano Trio performing at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Mary Catholic Church on Seventh and Birch streets, Rifle. The trio plans a performance of music by Mozart, Beethoven, Turina and Astor Piazzolla.

“This is a wonderful program,” said Linda Jenks Colby, the Arts Festival series producer. “The Beethoven Trio in C Minor is in the first group of compositions that Beethoven ever published. It’s Beethoven’s first “hello” to his public. It shook up a lot of expectations.”And Astor Piazzolla, though he may not be a household word, is probably the acknowledged master of Argentine tango compositions,” she said. “I’ve seen the performers’ credentials, and they are first-rate. I think we’re lucky to have them perform for us in Rifle.”

The concert is sponsored by a grant from the Book Cliffs Arts Council, and a portion of the concert’s proceeds benefit the council. Members from the Arts Council will be present at the concert.Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors, children younger than 12 and students. Call 984-0419 for more information.
