Midland detour at Glenwood Meadows ends

Travel through construction-choked Glenwood Springs is now a little easier with the opening of Midland Avenue between the Glenwood Springs Community Center and west Glenwood.

Crews have finished installing a traffic light on Midland at the entrance to the Glenwood Meadows commercial project. They also raised the elevation of Midland at the intersection and changed the alignment.

The reopening of Midland was scheduled to occur about a month ago, but ran into some minor delays. With Midland open, motorists no longer will be rerouted along the new Wulfsohn Road on the other side of Glenwood Meadows.

They still will face a slowdown at Midland and Eighth Street, where another light is being installed and the intersection reconstructed, and in west Glenwood at the Interstate 70 interchange, where roundabouts are being built.

However, Midland motorists also will enjoy a short-term reprieve of one sort. The new light at Glenwood Meadows won’t start turning red for them until this fall, when the project is scheduled to open.
