Midland roundabout may switch to T intersection
GLENWOOD SPRINGS – City Council could do an about-face on the roundabout planned for the north end of Four Mile Road at a special meeting set for 7 a.m. today at City Hall. Council will consider replacing the roundabout with a “T” intersection, said City Councilwoman Jean Martensen.According to city engineer Larry Thompson, the lack of an intergovernmental agreement between the city and the Re-1 School District has delayed the project for more than two weeks. The delay now could change the whole scope of the project. “If we can’t reach an agreement with the school district, we’re discussing other options we can do,” Thompson said. All work on the roundabout has stopped and won’t restart until an agreement is reached between the two entities or until another alternative is approved by City Council. “In conjunction with the contractor, we deemed it inefficient to go on with the work,” Thompson said. “He’s done what he can within the existing right of way.”The Glenwood Springs Planning and Zoning Commission will also hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. Items on the agenda include:-A conceptual review of the Glenwood Meadows major development application for Target and Lowe’s retail stores, which was reviewed by City Council on June 19.-The consideration of a redevelopment strategy for the confluence plan. -Review of the Lower Colorado River Valley Trail and river corridor plan.
