Midvalley travel alert: Accidents near El Jebel/Basalt
Slick roads caused multiple accidents on Colorado Highway 82 in the middle Roaring Fork Valley area Monday morning between El Jebel and Basalt, including one involving a RFTA bus.
Colorado Department of Transportation did not report any road closures, but social media comments indicated that some motorists were diverting onto the frontage road west of El Jebel.
A Pitkin Community Traffic Alert issued just after 7 a.m. warned that Highway 82 from milemarker 17 headed up valley eastbound is icy and snowpacked, and that motorists should expect winter driving conditions. “Please drive with caution and allow for extra travel time,” the alert advises.
Reports indicated that Interstate 70 between Parachute and Glenwood Springs was wet, but not icy this morning.
No injuries were being reported. This story will be updated as more information is available.

Basalt town government officials learned from Waste Management that it will require a $120,000 subsidy to keep a recycling drop-off site in Willits operating in 2020. That’s double the subsidy of last year. It reflects the depressed market for recycled materials.
