Mom’s worth a billion

LeAnn Zimmer and Jody Davis

Dear Editor,

This letter is in response to the man who spoke some very belittling words to our mother, who works at the Wal-Mart store in Glenwood Springs. He knows who he is. He was apparently unhappy about his experience that day at the store, and these are the words he spoke in the face of our mother: “Six bucks an hour, huh, and that’s ALL you’re worth.”

Well, sir, we want to tell you a little bit about our mother. She is 60 years old, and has worked like a dog for 40 years, taking the jobs no one else wanted. She has worked second and third shifts and weekends, just to help put food on our table. She and our father often did without in order for us to have a decent life. To us, she’s worth a billion times 6 bucks an hour.

I was wondering how much better you feel about yourself after demeaning our mother in that way. And we want to tell you also, to look in the mirror tonight and ask yourself how much you are worth.

Oh, and one more thing, the next time you are in Wal-Mart, our mother deserves an apology.
