Monika Larson

Monika Larson passed away Aug. 9, 2008, after her eight-year battle with breast cancer. She was born Oct. 20, 1940, in Aschaffenburg, Germany. She came to America to visit her sister, Irmgard, in 1959 and fell in love. She married Ken Larson and the couple moved to Alaska. She was proud to be a stay-at-home mom while her four children were growing. The family eventually moved to Phoenix, Ariz. After her husband started a new business in Glenwood Springs, she joined Ken in running Whitewater Rafting. The company became their passion during the course of the next 35 years. Her favorite activities included long walks with her husband, afternoon coffee with her sister Irmgard, and Friday luncheons with friends. She loved cruises and other vacations and holidays with her family. She recently decided to complete her American citizenship.Monika was loved so much and will be missed by all. She is survived by her husband Ken; son Dan; daughters Susi, Sonja and Sondra; sisters Ruth and Irmgard; brother Roland; nieces and nephews, and five grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. A private family service will be held to celebrate her life.
