Question: What is the schedule for completing the utility work around Exit 116?

Answer: The completion of the storm sewer drain line project for the Grand Avenue bridge project is anticipated to wrap up the first week of April.

Three new storm drains will service the new traffic roundabout on the corner of Sixth and Laurel. This project is an upgrade to the existing system, replacing metal drains with longer lasting and wider concrete drains. The alignment of these drainage pipes run right under the I-70 interchange at Exit 116.

To accomplish this work safely and expediently, the Exit 116 eastbound on-ramp will be closed from Monday, March 21, through Friday, March 25. Drivers wanting to go east on I-70 will need to enter at mile 114 in West Glenwood.

The eastbound off-ramp will remain open with the exception of Wednesday, March 23, when crews will be paving in the area, so Exit 116 eastbound will be completely closed from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The paving must be performed in the day to allow for workable asphalt temperatures. The westbound on-ramp and off-ramp will not be affected by the work this week and will remain open — with the exception of midnight Tuesday to 4 a.m. Wednesday.

During those hours, crews will move a large drill rig to another location. This move requires a full closure of I-70 eastbound beginning at midnight Wednesday until 4 a.m. Thursday.
