Racking up season-best times, Glenwood Springs’ girls swimming and diving team recorded a silver finish at a five-team meet in Grand Junction on Saturday.

“There were lots of good swims and few not-so-good ones,” Demons coach Theresa Wagenman said. “We had lots of seasonal best times, good starts, good finishes and positive attitudes.”

Glenwood’s 200-yard medley relay team consisting of Kierra Kalakewich, Keevyn Scholl, Hannah Grumley and Ashley Roper placed second with a 2 minutes, 4.03 seconds, which was a state-qualifying time.

The 400 freestyle relay team (Grumley, Rebecca Carcaterra, Roper and Scholl) also took second (4:01.47). It was the quartet’s season-best time and a 4A state-qualifying time.

“The girls have worked hard this season, with practices beginning at 5:45 a.m., Monday through Friday, and optional weights on Monday and Thursday evenings,” Wagenman said. “It’s been a fun season, and it’s hard to think that it is almost over.”

The Demons have just one dual meet remaining. It’s coming up at 9:30 a.m. this Saturday at the Glenwood Springs Community Center pool.

After that, Glenwood will head to the Feb. 4-5 Western Slope Championships at Mesa State College and then to the Feb. 11-12 Class 4A state meet in Loveland.
