Motivational speaker talks with local students, parents

A man Roaring Fork School District officials call “an MTV celebrity” will offer local students and parents his ideas on how to “make better life and family choices.”Jeff Yalden, a former Marine of the Year and Mr. New Hampshire Male America, has addressed more than 3,000 young audiences across all 50 states and in 48 nations, according to a statement by school officials.Yalden will speak to students at Basalt High School and Basalt Middle School on Wednesday; he will address parents at 6 p.m. that night in the high school gym.”We wanted to get somebody we felt the kids could connect with,” as well as someone adults could relate to, said Sarah Blangsted, director of the Aspen Youth Center.According to Blangsted, Yalden, who has 12 years of experience as a “life coach” and motivational speaker, will talk to parents about how to relate to and connect with their teenage children.He will speak to teens about how to make appropriate life choices and about how to make commitments that he maintains will “make the circumstances of tomorrow more fulfilling, meaningful and rewarding,” Blangsted said.
