Motorcyclist dies after hitting deer in Eagle County

A motorcyclist died Monday after colliding with a deer on Colorado Highway 131 in Eagle County.Gary Calvin Ellis, 53, of Flower Mound, Texas, was riding a 2002 Harley Davidson when he collided with a deer in the southbound lane at approximately milepost 18, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The motorcycle spun clockwise and rolled onto its side. Ellis, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest in the southbound lane.Ellis sustained serious head injuries and was airlifted from the scene to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver. He was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash at approximately 4:15 p.m.The crash was investigated by the Colorado State Patrol. Eagle Fire Department, Western Eagle County Ambulance District and Big Steve’s Towing assisted.
