Mountain Fair is next weekend

Staff Report

Boogie down in ‘Bonedale next weekend. The 34th annual Carbondale Mountain Fair is July 29-31 in Sopris Park.

More than 130 artisans from around the country will display unique wares including exquisite gold and gemstone jewelry, silk velvet clothing, fine wood furniture and more.

Artisan’s Alley will feature arts demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday.

Free music will run all weekend, from the rocking Irish music of The Kissers to the sweet string sounds of the Sybarite Quartet to the gypsy music of Kan’Nal. Mountain Fair is also proud to announce Grammy-nominated Blue Highway, playing on Sunday.

Betty Hoops Hula Hooping workshops, Mysto the Magi and Jammin Jim’s Circus Arts Workshops are part of the family entertainment to be enjoyed, as well as dance performances by Kelele African Dance Ensemble on Friday night and Masri Nar Middle Eastern Dance Troupe on Saturday night.

There will be plenty of opportunity for friendly competition, with contests for pie and cake baking, limbo, fly casting, horseshoes and the popular wood-splitting championships.

The Carbondale Mountain Fair benefits the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities, which provides arts support and programming.
