Happy birthday, Lorin

Lorin Doolen celebrated his 90th birthday with friends and family Aug. 28 at Island Retreat.

Guests included his four children, Louie Doolen of Grand Junction; Sara Bormuth and husband Greg of Bellingham, Wash.; Dona Wittwer and husband Jerry of Mancos; David Doolen and wife Denise of New Castle; grandson Dustin Wittwer of Juneau, Alaska; granddaughters Jenny Roberts and Chrissy Crain; and four great-grandchildren from Grand Junction.



A reception was held at the Community Presbyterian Church.

Lorin was born in Paducah, Texas, Aug. 28, 1913, and graduated from West Texas State College. He served in World War II in the Army as a surgical technician.



He married Mary Essig and they lived and raised their family in New Castle.

Fuller gets master’s

Sara Fuller, stepdaughter of Louis Logan of Glenwood Springs, recently earned a master of science in medical laboratory with a concentration in microbiology from Northeaster University in Boston.

She is a 1994 graduate of Glenwood Springs High School and received a bachelor of science in biology from Lehigh University in 1998.

Sara currently is employed in the microbiology laboratory at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass.
