Nancy Irene Derby

Nancy Irene Derby passed away Oct. 29, 2006, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.Nancy was born April 3, 1960, to Everette Eugene and Hazel Krueger in Denver. She was raised in the Denver area until 1974, when the family moved to Gunnison, where she met the love of her life, Fred Derby. Nancy stayed in Gunnison until 1977, when her family moved back to the Denver area. Nancy and Fred were married Feb. 14, 1978, in Denver. After their marriage, they returned to Gunnison and had two beautiful children, Kendra and Bryton. They moved to Rifle in 1994, where the family still lives.Nancy’s children were always first on her list. She was very involved in their lives, helping out at school as much as possible. Nancy was an avid quilt maker, winning numerous awards and ribbons, and was a member of the Anvil Points Quilt Guild. She made many beautiful quilts which will be cherished forever.She is survived by her husband, children and granddaughter, Kylie Derby, all of Rifle; brothers David Krueger of Kit Carson and Monte (Rhonda) Krueger of Eads; sister Karen Krueger of Eads; and her parents.Nancy was preceded in death by her grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Rifle United Methodist Church.Memorial contributions may be made to the Roaring Fork Hospice in care of Cochran Memorial Chapels, P.O. Box 1048, Meeker, CO 81641.
