Nelson Randall Parsons, known to all as Randy, died on July 20, 2011, of heart failure while sailing in the Spanish Virgin Islands.

Randy was born February 17, 1952, in Batavia, New York, to Anne Dunham Parsons and Nelson Donald Parsons. He is survived by his sister Nancy Parsons, brother Tom (Susie) Parsons, five nieces, his wife Susan Hussemann, and many close friends.

In 1973 Randy traveled to Colorado and fell so completely in love with its alpine beauty that he never left. He lived in Vail, Crested Butte and Glenwood Springs before moving to Silt.

Randy graduated from Rochester High School in Rochester, MI and attended Western Michigan University before moving west. He was co-owner and manager of Penelope’s Restaurant in Glenwood Springs before leaving the business to join GMCO Corp. He was also co-owner and operator of Rocky Mountain Sports Snowmobile Tours.

He enjoyed camping and motorcycle riding in the mountains as well as the desert. He was a member of the Motorcycle Trail Riding Association and served as president of the Mount Sopris Rec Riders for many years. He will always be remembered for his incredibly dry wit, passionate zest for life and the undiminished spirit of a true man of adventure.

A memorial to celebrate Randy’s life will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, August 16, at his home located at 146 Bluebell Lane on Silt Mesa.

Memorial donations can be made in Randy’s name to Valley View Hospital Foundation to be used by the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
