New Castle administrator search is about half over

NEW CASTLE, Colorado – Advertising for a new town administrator here had already turned up 31 applicants as of Tuesday, and the process will not close out until May 31, said acting administrator Mike Edgar.

The town is looking for someone to replace Andy Barton, who left in April to become town manager of Mesquite, Nev.

Edgar, whose normal job is as the town’s part-time human resources director, said ads were placed in mid-April, shortly after Barton announced his resignation.

The Town Council plans to make its final selection before the end of June, Edgar said.

Barton was earning $96,700 per year when he resigned after four years on the job, he told the Post Independent.

The initial screening of applications will be done by the town’s staff, Edgar explained, and perhaps a half dozen or more semi-finalists for the job will be interviewed by telephone.

The three or four finalists will be invited to New Castle for face-to-face interviews with the Town Council, tours of the town, and an evening “meet-and-greet” with town residents.

“We’ve got people from all over the United States that are applying,” said Edgar, including people with experience as managers of towns, cities and counties, and mostly people with masters degrees in various disciplines.

“It’s a good mix,” he concluded.
