RIFLE, Colorado – The new director of the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission will be the guest speaker tonight at the monthly meeting of the Garfield County Energy Advisory Board.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in the Rifle branch of the Garfield County Library, and is open to the public.
The EAB, created in 2004, meets monthly to provide a forum for the public, the oil and gas industry, landowners and local government to address issues related to the industry’s activities in Garfield County.
Matthew Lepore, a Denver attorney and former Colorado assistant attorney general, was appointed in early August to the job of director of the COGCC.
According to the COGCC website, Lepore has recently served as “lead counsel” for the COGCC, and has “represented the agency on numerous matters including environmental protection, permitting, and regulatory enforcement.”
Lepore, the commission’s statement added, was the COGCC’s lead counsel “during an especially challenging period” when the agency adopted “stronger protections for land, water, wildlife and public health in areas affected by oil and gas development.”
His address to the EAB is the “educational presentation,” for September, and is scheduled to begin shortly after 6 p.m.
