New district judge to be sworn-in next week

Ninth Judicial District judge appointee Denise K. Lynch is set to be sworn in next week at the Garfield County Courthouse. Gov. Bill Owens named Lynch to the District Court bench last week following the death of Chief District Judge T. Peter Craven, who died of heart disease in June. Lynch, who is currently wrapping up her duties as Assistant Garfield County Attorney, will be sworn in at 10 a.m. Aug. 17 in Courtroom A. A reception will follow the ceremony in Room 402. Garfield County Combined Courts Clerk James Bradford said Lynch will shadow another judge for two days after her swearing-in, then attend a new judge’s seminar the following week. Aug. 28 will likely be the first day Lynch will conduct business on the bench, Bradford said. Since Craven died, at least seven senior judges have presided over District Court, including former Chief Judge Tom Ossola and former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Joseph Quinn. Senior Judge Gaspar Perricone will preside next week. Contact Bobby Magill: 945-8515, ext. 520bmagill@postindependent.com
