New hotels to splash into Glenwood

New lodging is making a splash in Glenwood Springs. Two new hotels are in the planning and development stages in West Glenwood, but the latest in the city’s smorgasbord of accommodations will likely welcome its first guests in time for the summer tourist season. The new hotel, AmericInn, is slated to open at the base of Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park by June 1, said one of its owners, Vern Shea. The Minnesota-based company’s hotel at 52000 Two Rivers Plaza Rd. is unaffiliated with Glenwood Caverns and will include a waterpark called Splash Bay Adventure, which will feature a waterslide, “kiddie” waterslide, wading pool and a whirlpool. Some of the hotel’s 72 rooms will also include a whirlpool, AmericInn spokeswoman Janel Clark said. Owned by Steve Carver, Shea and other partners who own the Hotel Denver and the Glenwood Canyon Brewpub, the AmericInn will be managed by Hotel Denver manager Herman Aardsma. The Glenwood location will be AmericInn’s third hotel in Colorado with others located in Eagle and Windsor. Another hotel is planned for the Gilstrap Subdivision in West Glenwood just south of Interstate 70’s 114 exit, said city Planning and Development Director Andrew McGregor. The new hotel will not likely be a national franchise, and will be operated by the owners of the Quality Inn and Suites in West Glenwood, he said. A spokesperson for the Quality Inn could not be reached for comment Wednesday. McGregor said he knows of no other hotels in development in the city.
