GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” The new whitewater park’s popularity swept through Glenwood Springs like a tidal wave. It engulfed whitewater enthusiasts and spectators alike.

During the high water of spring, the park in West Glenwood Springs was packed with kayakers and surfers, and spectators lined the banks of the Colorado River watching this new attraction.

The rave reviews of the park started immediately. Users came from around the state to check out the new whitewater wave, some calling it the best they’ve ever used.

It took about seven years worth of planning and work to see the park become a reality, and the final cost was around $900,000.

The attraction also had an immediate impact on the local economy.

The popularity of the park caused some parking and traffic problems but those issues were addressed and work continues to make the park even better.

The park’s buzz started early and continued to swell, it was even featured in National Geographic Adventure magazine.

Then in June, it was announced that the park will host the 2009 U.S. Kayak Freestyle Team Trials in May.

There’s no doubt that the whitewater park is a tremendous addition to Glenwood Springs. For whitewater enthusiasts, spectators and local businesses, this is one attraction that is a great success.
