RIFLE – There are no suspects in connection with a house fire reported in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 16, just short of the Rio Blanco County line north of Rifle. The residence burned to the ground and is deemed a total loss, according to Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario. No one was home at the time. Both the sheriff’s office and the Rifle Fire Protection District responded to the fire. The fire reportedly occurred earlier in the day and was out by the time emergency personnel responded. An alleged arsonist who has been charged with starting the Sept. 5, 2005 Labor Day fires in Rifle and who bonded out of jail on Saturday evening, is not a suspect in the case, according to Vallario.”There is no indication to connect him to this fire,” Vallario said. “We know why (the arsonist) did the Labor Day fires, but there is no reason to believe there is any connection to this one.”The cause of the fire was not determined and there was no further information available.
