Noising off for a quieter town

Dear Editor,

I have written letters and attended several city council meetings in an attempt to get some enforcement of speed and noise ordinances. After awhile it became apparent that they were not going to do anything, so I added my two cents for a new crew. Looks as though it was a jump from the frying pan into the fire.

Due to excessive noise from loud exhausts, no exhaust systems, lead feet, speeding, resonators and thumpers, it is totally impossible to even begin to enjoy my home, even with a serious hearing problem.

Why are people so inconsiderate? Arrogance? Egotism? Narcissism? Never grew out of the 2-year-old mentality of beating on mom’s pots and pans for attention? Just don’t give a damn? That ignorant? All of the above?

Why are businesses allowed to sell machines and parts that are in clear violation of city and county codes?

I think the comic “For Better or Worse” is most appropriate. Grandpa and April are discussing people’s activities and Grandpa says they consider not getting caught an accomplishment. April says, “I’d rather be proud of my conscience than proud of a crime.” April, you are wonderful.

Just think of all the people who would be alive today and how enjoyable life would be if everyone embraced that. How anyone can do anything without considering his fellow man is beyond me.

Please think of April’s statement. I like it, I love it, I embrace it. Why don’t you?
