Noone first artist to be featured in First Friday

When Friday night rolls into downtown Glenwood, sometimes locals roll out.

Main Street Gallery is hoping to change that, with a new series called “First Friday.”

“We wanted to try and get some local people downtown on Friday nights, and ultimately into our gallery,” said Main Street salesperson Suzanne Stewart.

“First Friday” gets its name because it will take place the first Friday evening of every month. It is a sort of reception to kick off month-long shows by local artists at Main Street Gallery.

Though it most closely resembles a reception, “First Friday” will be more than an art show. During the receptions the artist being featured will be on hand and demonstrating art from painting to pottery.

“We are trying to demystify the art world to the average guy on the street,” said Stewart.

The demonstrations are meant to show that art is accessible to all people, of all income levels and cultural backgrounds, said Stewart.

The inaugural “First Friday” will feature the art of Mary Noone, a local painter who uses acrylics and bold colors in paintings that often feature the western Colorado landscape.

Noone has been showing in the valley for 20 years and is excited about the show and reception at Main Street.

“I love to paint, and I love to visit with people, and I love to visit with people while I paint,” she said.

“I think it’ll be fun.”
