North Mississippi Allstars mix up styles

Mountain Groove presents the North Mississippi Allstars and Rose Hill Drive at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wheeler Opera House. The Allstars, whose music is a mix of Southern blues and roots rock, consist of guitarist and singer Luther Dickinson, bassist Chris Chew, and drummer, pianist and singer Cody Dickinson.According to the band’s biography, its newest album, “Polaris,” reflects a musical accumulation of imagination, experimentation, risk and ambition.”This was supposed to be our most ‘out album,'” Dickinson said. “In the end, we took everything we can do – hill country blues, gospel, psychedelic pop, and everything else – and used it to nail down a whole new kind of Southern rock. And we don’t feel bashful about it at all. This is the best stuff we’ve ever done because we were definitely not scared of taking chances. This record is honest and from the heart.”Rose Hill Drive, a rock trio from Boulder, will open.
