Noxious weed meeting set for April; guest speaker will introduce new chemical
The Bookcliff, Mount Sopris, and South Side Conservation Districts, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Garfield County Vegetation Management office will host a noxious weed meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, April 10, at the Silt Fire Station.The guest speaker will be Travis Hurst, of Dow Agrosciences, who will discuss which chemicals to use on specific weeds. He will also introduce a new chemical, Milestone, that can be applied to the water’s edge and was developed for range and pasture. It is non-restricted and can be used to treat Russian knapweed.Dennis Davidson, of the NRCS, will discuss chemical safety and alternative methods for weed control. Steve Anthony, Garfield County weed manager, will introduce the new invasive weeds that are now present in Garfield County. Early detection of these weeds is important for proper treatment options.The Conservation District will also have the 2006 noxious weed cost share applications available. It’s time to schedule an no-site visit to help determine a weed treatment plan. The on-site visit is required to qualify for the cost share program.To register for the workshop call 945-5494, ext. 101.
