Alberta Buchser Allesandro
Alberta Buchser Allesandro died on November 15, 2014 at Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was born Alberta Johana Rumppin Elizabeth, New Jersey on July 15, 1932 and graduated from Battin High School in 1950. She married Robert D.Buchser in 1951,together they had five children and lived in Denver, Colorado; Fairbanks, Alaska; Sayerville, New Jersey; Embudo and La Mesilla, New Mexico until their divorce in 1971. Alberta also lived in Santa Fe, McIntosh and Albuquerque, New Mexico and North Conway, New Hampshire before moving to Battlement Mesa, Colorado in 1994.
In addition to raising her children, she worked at various positions, including the Elizabeth Daily Journal (NJ); the Welcome Wagon and the Mauro Veterinary Hospital in Espanola; the Rydal Press and the New Mexican in Santa Fe; and administrative secretary for the Environmental Improvement Board, State of New Mexico.
Alberta will be remembered for her strong, feisty character and independent spirit. She was dedicated to her beliefs, open-minded and always happy to strike up a conversation. She was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother; she made many friendships throughout her life and was known by all for her generous heart.
She was enthusiastic for social causes and received much recognition as a volunteer, including being awarded Local Hero in 2002 by the Aspen Valley Community Foundation and Recognition from the State of Colorado House of Representatives for her commitment to the non-profit organizations Lift-Up and the Mesa Vista Assisted Living Center. In 2013 the Parachute/Battlement Mesa Chamber of Commerce honored her for over eighteen years of service at the Parachute Information Cabin, always a familiar and friendly face.
Alberta is survived by four children, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren; John Buchser (Linda Dutcher Buchser) of Santa Fe, NM; Bonnie Buchser Hansen (George Hansen) of Steamboat Springs, CO and their two children, Katie and Christopher; Timothy Buchser (Alisha Love Buchser) of Austin, CO and their seven children, Samson, Fremont, Zephaniah, LillyDay, Solomon, Hansel, and Robert; Dean Buchser (Lora Rasmussen) of Talent, OR; granddaughter Lanice Campanella Rodrigues(Sonny Rodrigues)and their three children Kai Brown, Aleecea Rodrigues and Araya Rodrigues of Salida, CO. She is survived by her brother Victor Rumpp of Roselle, NJ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert G. and Ottilie Emilie Rumpp,her siblings, Elsie Olsen, Harrison Gill and George Gill, and her beloved daughter Christine Buchser Campanella. The family wishes to thank her many friends in Parachute and Battlement Mesa who were such a support through the years.
A Celebration of Alberta’s Life will be held Saturday June 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Public Library in Parachute, Colorado.
