Berniece H. Pickens (April 22, 1918 — April 23, 2019)

101 years! Berniece passed on peacefully, listening to her favorite country music one day after her 101st birthday. During her lifetime, she experienced all that she had set out to do. She was a school teacher and winning basketball coach for 30 years in Michigan. There she met and married the love of her life, Levand (Buck) Pickens. Upon retirement, they followed her childhood dream of living in her beautiful Colorado mountains. Together they enjoyed camping and Colorado outdoor activities. Berniece and her loving horse Bonnie explored area trails and rode in the Strawberry Days parade.

Berniece is predeceased by Buck and her sister, Kathryn Green. She leaves two daughters, Kay (Jack) Osborn and grandchildren Wendy and Scott of Michigan, and Karen Lee of New Castle with whom she resided and enjoyed ranch life. She also leaves great-grandchildren Allison, Justin, Alecia and Brittany and a wonderful array of devoted friends.

Memorial service will be Saturday, April 27, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Silt, CO, with a reception to follow.
