Carol J. Fortune (July 9, 1949 — June 11, 2017)
Carol Fortune, 67, passed away June 11, in Delta, CO, surrounded by her family. Carol was born to Albert (Bert) and Mary Wilma (Scott) Cornwell on July 9, in Montrose, CO. She was the youngest of 8 children. She graduated from Olathe High School in 1967.
She married Jim Fortune on July 20, 1969. They were married 47 years. Out of this union they had two children, a son Mike and a daughter Lisa.
In 1972, Carol and Jim moved to Carbondale, CO, where they raised their two children. She owned and operated her own Secretarial Service business for more than 15 years. In 2000, they moved back to Delta, their hometown, where she lived for 17 years.
Carol loved reading books, enjoyed traveling to Barbados, Mexico, Bahamas. She loved camping in the mountains with her family and friends. Loved trips to Moab in the springtime.
Carol is survived by her husband, Jim; her children, Mike Fortune of Delta, CO, and her daughter Lisa (Jason) Neil of Rifle, CO; her four grandchildren, Jodi and Tyler Fortune of Craig, CO, and Makenzie and Peyton Neil of Rifle, CO; her sisters, Nelda Smith and Ruth Workman of Montrose, CO, Marilyn Workman of Parachute, CO, and Helen Kelley of Decatur, GA; one brother Richard (Nancy) Cornwell of Olathe, CO; and a large extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Charlotte Decker and Raissa Todd. She was a loving wife, mom, grandma, aunt, sister and friend.
A memorial service will be July 7, 2017, at Taylor’s Funeral Home, 682 1725 Rd, Delta, CO.
She will be missed by many.
