Doris Nylander Tallmadge

Doris Nylander Tallmadge of Battlement Mesa, Colorado, passed peacefully February 13, 2015. She was born on May 30, 1920, in Osco, Illinois. A dedicated care giver throughout her life, Doris attended nursing school in Davenport, and volunteered for service in the Army Nurse Corps soon after graduation. She then became a flight nurse tending to soldiers wounded in battle in the European theater. Some of her favorite stories described her experiences in North Africa where she was stationed in 1944. At one point she risked being reported AWOL in order to travel to Rome to visit Robert Tallmadge, whom she would marry in 1946.

Following the war Doris and Bob settled in Denver, and raised five children, moving to Battlement Mesa in 1987. Doris loved all things in nature, was an excellent cook and entertainer, carrying on her Swedish heritage through amazing smorgasbord celebrations and baked confections.

Doris is survived by her daughter Ann (Grass Valley, CA) sons Larry (Carbondale), Rob (Denver), Scot (Wheat Ridge) 7 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband Bob and son Tim.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association. A memorial gathering and luncheon will be held from 11:00 – 3:00 at the historic school house at 7235 CR 300 in Battlement Mesa on September 19, 2015.
