Edith West

Edith West, age 89, passed away peacefully in her home in Silt, CO, on October 29, 2015, surrounded by her family. Edith was born on February 7, 1926, in Mont Ida, Kansas. She was the daughter of Otto and Bertie (Eddington) Loewe. On January 24, 1945, she married Arlen West, who preceded her in death in February 2012. Edith loved sewing and caring for her flowers. She was a member of the Zig-Zag Club in Ottawa, Kansas. She made many quilts which she gave to her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Edith and Arlen’s final years were spent in Silt, CO, on a ranch that Arlen had built from the ground up.

Edith is survived by her children, Ron West of Silt, CO, Steve (Glenna) West of Rifle, CO, and Phyllis (Jim) Ghersi, of Boca Raton, Florida. They also have six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Edith was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Russell Loewe; a sister, Irene, and her husband, Roland Sass.

Edith will be cremated and her final resting place will be in Garnett, Kansas, during the spring of 2016. A memorial will be held at that time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Hospice of the Valley in Glenwood Springs, CO.
