Edward Lee Petersen

Ed Petersen of Salida, CO (formerly of Glenwood Springs and Carbondale), passed away peacefully following a valiant battle with cancer. Born to George and Mildred Petersen, in Denver, CO, Ed attended South High School and CU-Boulder. Ed was a lifetime home builder and community volunteer, serving 30-plus years as a National Ski Patrolman at Sunlight, Howelsen Hill in Steamboat and Sol Vista near Granby. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, United Way and the Garfield County Search and Rescue, among others.

An avid outdoorsman, Ed lived 20 years in the Roaring Fork Valley, and later in Steamboat Springs, Edwards and Fort Collins, CO. In 2009, Ed retired in Salida, CO, recreating and volunteering for the Colorado Parks and Wildlife-Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Center.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by sister Jean Mar (Bill Mar), children Stephanie Pappas (Dennis Pappas), Jeff Petersen (Tia Petersen), and Cathy Northcutt (Shawn Northcutt), nine grandchildren and ex-wives Sheila Petersen Gillette and Diana Justin.

Friends are invited to join Ed’s Celebration of Life Saturday, June 28, at Riverside Park, Salida, CO, 10:30 a.m. (if inclement weather, meet in the Scout Hut). Bring your fun stories to share.
