Elbert Shelton (June 3, 1943 — November 1, 2019)

Elbert Shelton passed away peacefully at Valley View Hospital on November 1, 2019. Elbert was born in New Mexico on June 3, 1943, to Elmo Shelton Sr. and Thelma Phillips. He graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1961 and went on to serve in the Army, where he was stationed in Africa for nearly half of his time in the service.

After the Army, Elbert moved to Aspen in 1967. He worked as an electrician and picked up some extra work as a bartender for many years at Cooper Street Pier. Elbert was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He joined the Aspen Elks Lodge, BPOE 224, in 1975. He moved to Glenwood Springs in the 1980s and became an active member at the Glenwood Springs Elks Lodge, BPOE 2286, serving on various committees over the years and as Exalted Ruler from 2007 – 2008. He was also awarded Officer of the Year twice.

Elbert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Elmo Shelton Jr.

Elbert was a friend to many during his lifetime. A celebration of Elbert’s life will be held at the Glenwood Springs Elks Lodge at 3:00 on Friday, November 15.
