Gracie Aline Zancanella (September 5, 1943 — October 23, 2016)

Gracie Aline Zancanella, (who was 73) of Glenwood Springs sadly passed from this Earth on October 23rd at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. A Rosary will be held at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church on October 28th: at: 9:30, and Mass will follow at: 10:00. Father Bert Chilson will be officiating. After the service both Gracie and her husband Buzz Zancanella will be put lovingly to rest together at Rosebud Cemetery. After the short graveside service the family would like to invite everyone to the Zancanella house (1240 Blake Ave) for snacks and reminiscing.

Gracie was born (Sept. 5, 1943) and raised in New Iberia, Louisiana, by Arron and Rose (Young) Lavergne. She grew up on her family’s farm and had a love of animals and the outdoors. She belonged to 4H and The Iberia Saddle Club, and barrel-raced in local rodeos. She loved to read and ride her horses Jenny and T-Boy. In 1960 she graduated from New Iberia High School and went on to attend USL for two years. She was Medical Transcriptionist at Iberia Parish Hospital and for many doctors here in the valley. She met and married (April 16, 1966) the her love of her life Lawrence “Buzz” Zancanella in New Iberia, Louisiana, while Buzz was stationed there in the Navy. After his honorable discharge they moved back to Buzz’s hometown of Glenwood Springs to start their family. She loved knitting, embroidering and spending her free time with family and friends. Gracie was a devout member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, was a member of Catholic Daughters, St. Bridget’s, and Sole Mates hiking group.

She is survived by three daughters Rosemary Preheim, Christy and Annie Zancanella. Also survived by her son-in-law Steve Preheim and her granddaughters Maddy and Lexy, her brothers Jay (wife Sis), Guy (wife Teresa), and Perry Lavergne, her sister-in-law Eleanor Zemlock, and her four boys Scott (fiancé Sahara), Mike (wife Diane), Joe (wife Debbie), and Andy Zemlock. Along with numerous great-nephews, great-nieces, and cousins galore. She is preceded in death by her parents Aaron and Rose Lavergne, husband Lawrence “Buzz” Zancanella, mother-in-law Ruth Zancanella and brother-in-law Martin Zemlock.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Gracie’s name to Riding Institute for Disabled Equestrians at 2804 County Road 250 in Silt, Colorado 81652.

Thank you to everyone who has helped the family in this time of grieving. Our mother Gracie touched everyone’s lives she came into contact with, and her beautiful smile and warm hugs will be forever missed.
